Is the Role of the Advocate in passing Money?
Today the final oral round of the Fourth Scientific Conference for the law students "Advocacy: Current State and Prospects for its Development in the Republic of Armenia," was accomplished. 28 students from the law schools of Yerevan, as well as from the regions had applied for participation in the conference. Yet only the authors of the best 4 reports were authorized to take part in the final round to introduce their reports to the attention of the expert lawyers.
Advocate Karen Zadoyan noted that as a result of the conference, which is being held for already four successive years, many of the students from different institutes currently work in the governmental bodies and a number of law organizations.
In his report Igor Avakyan, a third year student from the law department of Yerevan “Gladzor” University referred to the role of the advocate. In particular he expressed the following opinion, “the advocate in Armenia seems to be someone who passes the money from the client to the judge,” and suggested total reformation of the system.
Naira Dilanyan, 4th year student from the law department of the European Academy of Regional Education referred to the issues of the advocate’s ethics, which she thought have not been developed and revised since the soviet times. She had introduced all the gaps, which the lawyers of the new generation should fill in.
