The Lawyers in Washington

The International Round of the 2006 Phillip Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition will take place in Washington on 27 March through 2 April. The team of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) State University, the winner of the Armenian Round, which took place on 4-5 February, will represent Armenia in the International Round. The Competition was held in Armenia for the sixth time and was organized by the Armenian Young Lawyers Association, The Law Foundation of Armenia and “Legal Alliance” Law Firm. The theme of the competition this year refers to the multinational corporations involvement in human rights violations, and sovereignty over natural resources. Overall 7 themes participated in the competition. The team of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) State University met with the team of MYUD Law University in the final round. The Memorial of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) State University was recognized the best. Ara Khzmalyan, representative of the team was announced the Best Oralist.
As the AYLA representative informed us the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was founded in 1959 is being held in about 90 countries of the world by the International Law Students Association ( ILSA). The competition is named after Philip Jessup – a judge of the International Court and has risen to the pre-eminent position of being one of the largest and most prestigious international law moot court competitions in the world. Students from about 600 law institutes all over the world take part in the competition every year.
