Working Meeting with the Representative of Foundation Stichting Oxfam Novib, Netherlands
On 5 May 2010, Mr. Krijn Hoogendorp, Program Officer from Foundation Stichting Oxfam Novib, Netherlands, visited the AYLA Central Office in Yerevan. The visit was aimed to learn about the work and activities carried out during the first year of the project “My Right to be Heard,” which the Armenian Young Lawyers Association currently implements with support of Oxfam Novib.
Prior to this meeting Mr. Hoogendorp and the AYLA representative visited one of the project sites, the AYLA Gavar Office in Gegharkunik Marz of the RA. Mrs. Nelly Hayrapetyan, Head of the AYLA Gegharkunik Branch, introduced to the attention of the guest the activities that the branch office had realized during the first year of the project, as well as the achievements and results. After that they visited Gavar School # 4, where they participated in public awareness seminar on Fundamental and Everyday Human Rights and their Protection Mechanisms, which the volunteers of the AYLA Gegharkunik Branch conducted for the pupils of the 9th form. After the seminar the official ceremony of handing the certificates of participation/completion to the graduates of the seminars on Fundamental and Everyday Human Rights and their Protection Mechanisms took place in Gavar office of the AYLA. Mr. Krijn Hoogendorp and Mrs. Nelly Hayrapetyan handed certificates to 16 participants/graduates of the training of trainers on raising public awareness.
In the afternoon the guest met with the implementing staff of the project in the AYLA Central Office in Yerevan. Mr. Hoogendorp participated in the ceremony of handing of published collections of materials of the fifth and sixth scientific conferences for the law students "Advocacy: Current State and Prospects for its Development in the Republic of Armenia," which took place in the newly built training room of the Center, which was furnished with support of Oxfam Novib.
Further, Mr. Hoogendorp met with Mr. Karen Zadoyan, President of the AYLA, the staff and volunteers of the AYLA in the club meeting hall of the Central Office which was repaired and furnished with support of Oxfam Novib as well. The implementing staff introduced to the attention of the guest the activities on providing free legal aid and services to socially vulnerable layers of the population in the framework of the project “My Right to be Heard,” and the results achieved, during the first year of project implementation.
On May 5, at 11:30 – 13:00, the AYLA volunteers distributed information leaflets aimed at raising legal awareness of the population in the streets of Gavar city. At 15.00 -19.00 the AYLA volunteers in Yerevan distributed similar information leaflets near the metro stations in Yerevan.
