Official Ceremony of Signing of Memorandum of Understating between the RA Aragatsotn Marz Administration and the Armenian Young Lawyers Association
On 27 April 2010 the Ceremony of Signing of Memorandum of Understating between Aragatsotn Marzpetaran and the Armenian Young Lawyers Association, took place in the office of Advocacy and Assistance Center of Aragatsotn Marz in Ashtarak city. Mr. John H. Seong, Deputy Mission Director, USAID/Armenia, Mr. Mark Levinson, USAID Democracy Advisor, Mr. Sargis Sahakyan, Governor of Aragatsotn Marz of the RA, Mr. Gor Abrahamyan, Mayor of Aparan City, Mr. Eduardo Flores-Trejo, Deputy Chief of Party of MAAC Activity, Mr. Karen Zadoyan, President of the Armenian Young Lawyers Association, as well as high ranking officials from Aragatsotn Marzpetaran, City Administrations of Ashtarak, Talin and Aparan cities, representatives of USAID, MAAC Activity, local non-governmental organizations, partner organizations of the AYLA, as well as AYLA staff members, and mass media attended the ceremony.
Prior to the ceremony of signing of the Memorandum of Understanding a seminar “System and Procedural Level Changes as the most important Component in Struggle against Corruption,” took place. During the seminar Mr. Zadoyan, AYLA President spoke about the necessity of system and procedural level reforms in struggle against corruption. Further, Mr. Eduardo Flores-Trejo, Deputy Chief of Party of MAAC Activity, spoke about the importance of cooperation of the state and local administration bodies with the civil society organizations in struggle against corruption. The Project expert Mr.Vache Kalashyan, President of the Union of Armenian Government Employees, introduced to the attention of the participants the opportunities to realize reforms in the context of Anticorruption Strategy 2008-2010.
The primary objective of Memorandum is to prevent and decrease corruption risks in Aragatsotn Marz of the RA; as well as to promote increase of efficiency of struggle against corruption; to raise the level of awareness on the importance of struggle against corruption among the population of the Marz; and to assist to procedural and system level reforms in the legislation, which includes corrupt risks, etc.
