
Reforms of the Legislation regulating the Women’s Political Participation Sphere

On 8 May 2008 a seminar on the Reforms of the Legislation regulating the Women’s Political Participation Sphere was held in Yerevan Office of the AYLA Yerevan Regional Branch. The seminar was organized in the framework of the AYLA project “Legal Aid and Information Support.” Miss Syuzanna Soghomonyan, lawyer of the Armenian Young lawyers association facilitated the seminar. Representatives from NGOs, law schools and lawyers attended the seminar.
At the beginning of the discussion the facilitator introduced to the attention of participants the articles of the RA Electoral Code and the RA Law on Political Parties, which jeopardize the women’s political participation. Further the participants analyzed those articles and reached the conclusion that the mentioned articles need improvement through corresponding legislative reforms. The organizers of the seminar recorded the suggestions and recommendations of the participants. Further AYLA will summarize the records and prepare a package of suggestions and recommendation for legislative changes referring to the articles of the RA Electoral Code and the RA Law on Political Parties, which will promote the women’s political participation and introduce to the attention of the National Assembly of the RA.
