
Official Results of the First Republican Scientific Conference for the Law Students "Judicial System: Current State and Prospects for its Development in RA"
The final oral round of the First Republican Scientific Conference for the
Law Students “Judicial System: Current State and Prospects for its Development
in RA”, which was organized by Armenian Young Lawyers Association and
the Law Foundation of Armenia, was held in Yerevan Hotel at 10 a.m., on July
15, 2005. The Conference was supported by the Armenian office of ABA CEELI
(American Bar Association Central and East European Law Initiative) and "Bookinist" bookstore.
The Conference was aimed at raising the level of the knowledge of law students,
as well as to promote to the establishment of the Advocates institute in the
RA. It also provided opportunity to introduce a critical dialogue on the current
state of the judiciary system in the RA, to discuss the current state and the
prospects for the development of the judiciary system, and to promote the reforms
of the legislation regulating the activities of the courts. The conference
had two rounds: written and oral. 13 students from the law schools of Yerevan,
as well as from the regions had applied for participation in the conference
by June 23, in accordance with the approved schedule. 6 applicants introduced
their reports in time. In compliance with the official rules of the conference
the authors of the five best reports presented their papers, which were evaluated
by a panel of well-known Armenian lawyers and judges. The winners received
valuable prizes.
“ALM” and “AR” TV Companies, Armenian Public Radio,
Radio Hay, and Radio Liberty, as well as “Aravot” and “Azg” Dailies covered the Conference.
The collection of the theses of 5 best reports of the First Republican Scientific Conference for the Law Students "Judicial System: Current State and Prospects for its Development in the RA" was published after the Conference. The speakers touched the problems that exist in the judicial system of the Republic of Armenia, with an emphasis on the problems which exist in daily courtroom business, in addition to the shortcomings and omissions in corresponding legal acts. The law students submitted their suggestions to improve the situation as well. The collection of theses was distributed among the lawyers.
